Today, the latest super sports car that I will test drive for you is also a work that keeps pace with the times — — Ferrari 296 GTB.
On the eve of this test drive, my colleague has made a detailed static experience report and technical interpretation of Ferrari 296 GTB. In fact, when it comes to the 296 GTB car, we have to talk about the origin of its name. This 296 GTB also continues Ferrari’s rule of naming three numbers according to engine displacement and cylinder number. Next, I will give you a detailed explanation.
The first two digits of 296, "29", represent the displacement of 2992cc, and "6" is even more difficult to understand, representing V6 engine. GTB is the abbreviation of "Gran Turisom Berlinetta". GT is not difficult to understand. When you see "Berlinetta", everyone will suddenly realize it, yes! This 296 GTB inherits the concept of Ferrari Berlinetta classic two-seater sports car and endows it with daily driving and travel attributes. The above is the origin of the name Ferrari 296 GTB.
On the front face design, the 296 GTB does look a bit like the SF90, which is the latest Ferrari design style. The aerodynamic kit on the front face can help to provide 360 kilograms of downforce (at a speed of 250km/h) for the whole vehicle while maintaining ultra-low air resistance. By the way, if you want to drive this 296 GTB in and out of the basement for a long time, it is recommended to add the front suspension lifting function to your optional list, so that the front lip of your car can be preserved as much as possible.
If you have a stronger personalized demand, you can also choose the Assetto Fiorano racing kit specially made for Ferrari 296 GTB, which is the model in the picture above. Although it is expensive, it can really meet your needs for personality.
The length, width and height of the car body are 4565*1958*1187mm and the wheelbase is 2600mm respectively. The front tread is 1665mm, the rear tread is 1632mm, and the net weight of the whole vehicle is 1470kg. In fact, we can see from the car side and wheelbase that the 296 GTB is a more compact Berlinetta model.
Needless to say, the rim shape, Ferrari’s classic double five-spoke blade shape, although the design is very simple, looks very big. The front wheel size is 245/35 ZR20 and the rear wheel size is 305/35 ZR20. The tread pattern of this PS4 S tire is specially designed by Michelin for Ferrari 296 GTB. If you feel that it is not radical enough, you can also choose the more extreme Michelin Cup 2 tire specially designed for the track requirements of 296 GTB.
At the rear of the car, in order to provide enough tail downforce when driving on the track, Ferrari also specially designed an active tail for the 296 GTB. With the increase of vehicle speed, the tail wing will actively adjust the appropriate angle. Don’t underestimate this small poor rear tail, which can provide 100 kilograms of downforce at 250 km/h.
The exhaust at the tail does not adopt a circular tail throat with double-outlet layout like the latest SF90 or F8, but adopts a central single-outlet design similar to the "HDMI interface" shape. Of course, personally, I must prefer the round double-outlet tailpipe on F8. However, this is Ferrari’s latest attempt, please get used to it slowly. Maybe many models will use the same exhaust in the future.
When you get into the car, if you are familiar with Ferrari’s latest interior design, you will definitely think of SF90 or Roma first. Of course, the large central control screen placed vertically on Roma does not appear on this 296 GTB. I guess it may be because the sports properties of this 296 GTB are more pure. However, the design of the touch ignition switch, touch driving mode selection and the front screen of the co-pilot on the SF90 has been continued.
The shape of the steering wheel is also very similar to that of SF90, or it can be said that it is almost identical, and it is also the design of leather and carbon fiber splicing. Touch ignition button, driving mode adjustment knob and mixed mode selection area are all kept in familiar places. If you already have an SF90, then none of this is a problem for you and you can get started immediately.
Ferrari 296 GTB has four power modes to choose from, namely:
EDrive pure electric mode (fully charged, it can travel 25km in pure electric mode, with a top speed of 135km/h).
Hrbride hybrid mode (highest power efficiency and most energy saving)
Performance performance mode (engine always works to maximize kinetic energy recovery efficiency)
Qualify qualifying mode (the engine and motor reach the best peak state, and the kinetic energy recovery efficiency is slightly lower)
The driver can switch one key through the touch button at the lower left of the steering wheel. Of these four modes, only the Qualify mode can completely squeeze the power of this 3.0T V6 engine+motor, and output the maximum comprehensive power of 830 horsepower.
